Privacy Policy
WeRoll is a small-hangout app for Assumption University students. This page explains what we collect, why, who helps us run the app, and how you can delete your data.
Who we are
WeRoll is an independent student project run from Bangkok, Thailand. It is not an official Assumption University service. Contact us at support@weroll.app.
What we collect
| Data | Why we need it |
|---|---|
| AU email address and password | To create your account and sign you in. Passwords are stored hashed by our database provider; we can't read them. |
| Name, username, profile photo, cover photo, bio | To show your profile to other students. |
| Verification selfie and student ID photo | To confirm you are a real AU student. Only you and WeRoll's reviewers can see them; they are never shown on your profile. |
| Hangouts you create or join, including the place and meeting point you pick on the map | To run hangouts and show them to other students. |
| Chat messages and photos in hangout chats | To let members of a hangout talk to each other. Only that hangout's members can read them. |
| Voice in hangout voice rooms | To carry the live call. Voice is streamed, not recorded or stored. |
| Check-ins, follows, blocks, reports and feedback | To confirm who showed up, keep the community safe and improve the app. |
| Activity: when you last opened the app, which days you used it | To show "online now" to admins and count daily users. |
| Device and push data: platform (web, iPhone, Android) and a push token if you allow notifications | To send you notifications about your hangouts and chats. |
We do not collect your phone's GPS location, contacts, or browsing history. Places on hangouts are only the ones you choose.
How verification photos are checked
- On the web, the camera screen checks framing, light and that your eyes are open on your device. That check doesn't send the camera feed anywhere.
- When you submit, Google Cloud Vision reads the student ID photo to confirm it shows "Assumption University" and a student number that matches your AU email.
- A WeRoll reviewer then looks at your selfie and ID and approves or rejects them.
Who helps us run WeRoll
We share data only with the services that run the app, and only what each one needs:
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Stores accounts, the database and photos, and runs our server functions. |
| Google (Maps, Places, Cloud Vision) | Place search, map previews and directions, and reading student ID photos. |
| LiveKit | Carries voice-room audio. |
| Resend | Sends sign-up and password-reset emails. |
| Cloudflare | Hosts our websites and protects them from attacks. |
| Your browser's or phone's push service | Delivers notifications. |
We don't sell your data, we don't show ads, and we don't share your data with advertisers.
What other students can see
- Your name, username, profile and cover photo, bio, verified badge, and the hangouts you host.
- Members of a hangout see who else is going and the hangout's chat.
- Your email, selfie and ID photo are never shown to other students.
How we keep it safe
- All traffic is encrypted (HTTPS).
- Database rules make sure each person can only read and change what they're allowed to.
- Verification photos are kept in private storage that only you and our reviewers can open.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, we delete your profile, hangouts, messages, check-ins, verification records, and your profile, cover and verification photos. Photos you sent in hangout chats stop showing anywhere once your messages are deleted, but the image files can stay in storage; email us and we'll remove them. Technical logs kept by our providers may take up to 30 days to expire.
Your choices and rights
- See and edit your profile at any time in the app.
- Turn off notifications in your browser or phone settings.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account), or ask us to delete it if you can't use the app.
- Ask us anything about your data, or ask for a copy of it, at support@weroll.app.
Age
WeRoll is only for Assumption University students aged 18 or older.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and tell you in the app when the change is important.
